Are you like me? Someone who loves God and lives a life to honor Him, but have come face to face with the fact that “I’m not perfect?” Through experiencing my own shortcomings I put together 3 reasons why we should thank God when we sin!
1) Sin reminds me that I need God!
Though falling can be frustrating, when it happens, it reminds me that my own will-power is not enough, I need God’s strength to fill my weakness. This state of “brokenness” only brings God closer. Allow sin to teach you to rely on Him more.
John 15:5
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing
2) Sin reminds me to confess!
I knew an old preacher from texas, who would always say slowly, (in an ol’ southern Texas accent) “Thank you devil for reminding me that I sinned, so that I can confess my sins and receive God’s forgiveness!”
The next time you hear an accusing voice reminding you of past sin, let it serve as a reminder to confess, so that you can enjoy the power of forgiveness!
1 John 1:9
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness”
3) Sin can teach us how to sin less!
Psalm 51:12-13 “Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. [13] Then I will teach transgressors your ways, so that sinners will turn back to you.”
David, from the Bible wrote this after he committed adultery. He asked God to forgive him so that he could teach people to turn from sin. Why would David say that unless his experience of sin gave him insight into the process of sinning?
If you really have a heart after God, examine each shortcoming to gain awareness, such as, “What patterns preceded it?”, “What emotional state were you in?”, and “Were there any particular triggers?”
Allow your sin to instruct you how to overcome it.
So there you have it, 3 reasons to thank God when you sin!
Of course, this isn’t meant as a license to sin, but rather as a license to be free from guilt and shame! Don’t let your mishaps keep you from living your Good Life Now!
Cheers to your Good Life!
